Dimples are Not all Cute

Today, I would like to talk about dimples, not the cute kind you see when a 4-year-old smiles. You can’t seem to get rid of the dimples we wish never existed, no matter how much you work on—the dreaded cellulite dimples. And whether we are talking about dimples in swimsuit weather or our leggings, they are not cute.

Up until recently, there was no good treatment for cellulite. We have good treatments for fat reduction – CoolSculpting, Tickle lipo, Venus Legacy – but none of those are good treatments for cellulite, because what we don’t like about cellulite – the dimpling – is not really cause from too much fat, the area dimples because of the bands of tissue holding the surrounding fat in segments or dimples. So what we need to get rid of is those bands. Think of how a honeycomb looks with all the little compartments of honey. If there were no compartment walls, there would be just a smooth puddle of honey. Well, we finally have a treatment that goes after those compartment walls or fibers – the new injectable QWO. That’s Q-W-O. QWO is a collagenase – in other words, an enzyme that dissolves the fibrous bands that give the dimpling effect called cellulite.

The injections take 10 minutes or less and are relatively painless. The treatment protocol calls for 3 sessions each about 4 weeks apart. Your full results will be month 4, but most patients notice improvement after the first treatment. The most common side effect is bruising – you will bruise. Treatment areas include the buttocks and back or side of the thighs.

Results typically show 70% or more improved appearance of dimples. It’s that simple.

So finally, a treatment for what is giving you cellulite – not too much fat, not too much food, not enough trips to the gym. A treatment to dissolve the fibrous bands and give you the smooth thighs and butt you have always wanted.

The Good Menopause

The Good Menopause – In a Minute

Dr. Jill Wohlfeil from Reneu Health & Medispa. Thanks for joining me for my first Instagram Live production of The Good Menopause -In a Minute. For most women menopause is not something they understand or look forward to. Hormones in general are rather mysterious, and fluctuations can wreck havoc in the steadiest of persons. Just look back to adolescence. I like to tell my patients that peri-menopause (the transition from normal ovarian function to no ovarian function ie menopause) is really just the opposite of adolescent hormonal imbalance, accept we can’t run up into our room, slam the door and play the music to house rattling volumes – although maybe some of you have done that, or at least thought of doing that. Regardless, peri-menopause and menopause represent two of the most life-altering hormonal transitions for women. Brainfog, weight gain, insomnia, hot flashes, decreased ( or just plain missing) sex drive, hair loss, mood swings, fatigue…the list goes on. But that doesn’t mean we have to just tough it out and hope things get better on their own. Balancing hormones is critical to keep our brain chemistry, gut function, immune system and metabolism at their best. And when I say balancing hormones, I don’t just mean estrogen, as might be the first hormone you think of when we are talking about menopause.

Balancing hormones means ALL hormones. No hormone functions all by itself. Think of it like a factory assembly line. Every worker on that line has a very important role in producing the end product – the healthiest you! If even one worker is missing, or slow, or dysfunctional, you will not be getting the best product in the end, the best YOU. So those “workers” include not only estrogen and the other ovarian hormones, but thyroid, adrenal and pancreatic (or insulin) hormones as well. Other “workers” in that factory analogy include vitamins and co-factors, stress management, proper sleep, healthy eating, exercise and mindfulness.

So I’m going to take a “minute” to talk to you weekly about each of these hormones and how here are Reneu we give you the tools for A Good Menopause. Tune in next Monday for the estrogen minute.

Thanks and don’t forget to visit our website ReneuHealth.com for more information on being the best you.

The Mystery of Cortisol

Hello, Dr. Jill Wohlfeil here with Thursdays from Reneu.

Don’t forget Mother’s Day is just around the corner – May 8, and hopefully some warmer weather is as well. We have some wonderful specials running this month – great for Mothers, well great for anyone, so give us a call, check out our facebook page, or website. Just DON’T FORGET MOM!!

I’m going to switch gears a bit with this Thursdays news from Reneu as we have been concentrating a lot on the wonderful aesthetic procedures we offer at Reneu, but don’t forget we concentrate on full body wellness.

Today I want to talk about Cortisol – whew – that’s a biggie. Well not really, did you know that your adrenal glands are about the size of a nacho chip sitting on the top of each kidney? Crazy how such a tiny, often forgotten gland is so very important. You can’t live a single day without Cortisol.

So we hear about it all the time – too much, too little, cortisol belly, adrenal fatigue – what is this all about and how would you even go about checking yours?

Cortisol really is a problem in our typical Western lifestyle. We work too much, sleep too little, eat imbalanced diets and ignore the stress in our lives – often self-medicating with activities that make it even harder on our adrenal glands.

You see Cortisol is our fight or flight hormone and is released when we are under stress – but this ancient hormone was designed to get us out of ancient stresses – like running from a saber tooth tiger. So when we are under stress high levels of cortisol are released. This causes stored calories to be released into our system, defers blood flow from our gut to our muscles, increase our blood pressure, make epinephrine rather than serotonin (the list goes on) because those things help us run faster from that saber tooth tiger!! But if we are not running away from some danger, and perhaps dealing with an demanding boss or an unruly teenager – those things cause us to gain weight, bloat when eating, give us high blood pressure, low moods and focus – just to name a few!

So how do you figure out if your adrenal gland is stressed out?

Testing for the two main adrenal hormones – cortisol and DHEAS is a good start. Cortisol needs to be tested over a 24 hour period with 4 levels – this can be done with saliva or spit (because who wants to get their blood drawn 4 times in 24 hours?) DHEAS is a simple blood test. We like to also include a more complete symptom survey as often times it gives us clues into other things that may be affecting your hormonal pathways.

So if feel like you adrenal gland is running away from a saber tooth tiger give us a call and we can help you slow down and start sorting things out. Because at Reneu we want to make you the best you possible. Both inside and out!
Until next time!
